Approximately 1,000 couples have been married in the state of Utah following the December ruling that banning same-sex marriages is unconstitutional.
The states attorney general and governor appealed to the Supreme Court. Their argument is that there is still a chance that the case could make it to the Supreme Court and then have a ruling against marriage equality.
Many LGBTQ people are outraged that their right to marry has been placed on hold. (They are awaiting a ruling in the tenth circuit.) All the filings are due by February on this appeal.
I know that the states attorney general and the governors’ intentions are to fight against marriage equality, which is appalling. However, with that said if I lived in the state of Utah and was permitted to legally get married just to have that marriage nullified two months later I would be just as appalled.
To all Utah residents,
The country is behind you and although it will require a little more patience on your part, Marriage Equality will be yours soon!
